چکیده

Geostationary meteorological satellites are recently receiving a great deal of attention from the aerosol remote sensing community due to their increasingly advanced performances including ability acquire multiple views Earth per day. However, this type observing systems limited by partial coverage globe, which makes them inappropriate for monitoring long-range-transported particles or assimilating derived products into global atmospheric models. This shortcoming is overcome in pioneering investigation thanks simultaneous use geostationary GOES-17, GOES-16, Meteosat-11, Meteosat-8, and Himawari-8. The combination these five spacecrafts (herein referred as GEO-ring) covers full globe except polar regions, not seen orbit. Data acquired GEO-ring 2020 processed algorithm AERUS-GEO provide quasi-global maps daily optical depth (AOD). These data proved be accurate with respect AERONET ground measurements. potential science then demonstrated. First, retrieved AOD potentially useful forecasting improved orbiting Terra/Aqua (51.4% vs. 26.6%). Second, used track aerosols emitted during Western US wildfires. article prelude that will possible when exclusively consisting next generation imagers available launch Meteosat Third Generation-Imager.

Prediction of daily fine particulate matter concentrations using aerosol optical depth retrievals from the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES).

UNLABELLED Although ground-level PM2.5 (particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter < 2.5 microm) monitoring sites provide accurate measurements, their spatial coverage within a given region is limited and thus often insufficient for exposure and epidemiological studies. Satellite data expand spatial coverage, enhancing our ability to estimate location- and/or subject-specific exposures to PM2...

Aerosol data assimilation using data from Himawari-8, a next-generation geostationary meteorological satellite

Himawari-8, a next-generation geostationary meteorological satellite, was launched on 7 October 2014 and became operational on 7 July 2015. The advanced imager on board Himawari-8 is equipped with 16 observational bands (including three visible and three near-infrared bands) that enable retrieval of full-disk aerosol optical properties at 10min intervals fromgeostationary (GEO) orbit. Here we s...

Daily estimates of the tropospheric aerosol optical thickness over land surface from MSG geostationary observations

The paper presents an innovative method to derive aerosol optical thickness (AOT) on a continental scale, using MSG observation. The approach consists in taking into account the high temporal resolution of the observing system, in order to discriminate between surface and aerosol effects. A suitably extended semi-empirical BRDF model is applied, combined with a recursive scheme. The method is n...

An Algorithm for the Retrieval of Aerosol Optical Depth from Geostationary Satellite Data in Thailand

An algorithm was developed to estimate aerosol optical depth (AOD) from geostationary satellite data. The 6S radiative transfer computer code was employed to generate a look-up table (LUT) which incorporates several combinations of satellite-derived variables including earthatmospheric reflectivity, atmospheric reflectivity and surface albedo. The parameterization of the satellite-derived atmos...
